About The Lab
The Translational Respiratory Immunology lab (TRIL) is based in the state of the art Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute, one of the flagship institutes in TCD. We work closely with our clinical partners at the Department of Clinical Medicine in Tallaght University Hospital, Dublin and our collaborators in the School of Biochemistry & Immunology TCD, Trinity Translational Medicine Institute (TTMI) and University College Cork.
Dr Muñoz-Wolf earned her Biochemistry degree in the School of Sciences, University of Uruguay which focused on immunomodulation by helminths. She completed a 5-year PhD in Chemistry which she carried out at the Department of Biotechnology, University of La Republica - Uruguay and Institut Pasteur Lille - France. Her PhD focused on the use of microbial-derived molecules as therapeutics and vaccines adjuvants for pneumococcal pneumonia.
She pursued her postdoctoral studies since 2013 at the Adjuvant Research Group led by Prof. Ed Lavelle at Trinity College. Her postdoctoral work addressed the mode of action of particulate adjuvants for optimisation of T cell responses. In parallel she continued to develop her research on lung diseases for which she received two prestigious awards: The 2017 Thomas Mitchell Medal of Excellence awarded by the IRC for being the highest ranked postdoctoral fellow in Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and the 2018 Fellowship Award by the Federation of European Microbiological Societies.
She has co-supervised several undergraduate and master’s research projects in immunology at TCD. She contributes as a lecturer in the Infection and Disease module of the Immunology degree and Postgraduate courses in TCD, and is a member of the Executive Board and Outreach Committee of the Irish Society for Immunology.
