The transition from Early-Career Researcher (ECR) to independent investigator is one of the most critical phases in a scientist's life. To address the unique hurdles of this transition, yEFIS recently organized a specialized ECR workshop during the 7th European Congress of Immunology in Dublin.

This featured article provides a comprehensive snapshot of that session, highlighting the career trajectories of eight successful Principal Investigators. By documenting their diverse experiences, the piece explores the multifaceted nature of academic growth, including:

  • Strategic Mobility: The impact of moving countries and institutions.

  • Operational Challenges: Securing tenure and managing laboratory growth.

  • Work-Life Integration: Navigating the intersection of research and family responsibilities.

We invite you to read this collection of stories, including our PI's, which celebrates scientific excellence while acknowledging the non-linear paths that lead to success in modern immunology.
